This conversation on house churches gets regurgitated every 20-25 years mostly in the USA, where and when churches have become big business.
Having gone through several variations on a theme, house churches can be just as much 'work' and harbour as many problems as the 'traditional' churches. Mainly, I think, because at the end of the day, people keep forgetting that the word church should be about a body of believers, not a building or programme or particular style of worship.
When expressions of faith go stale in the mouths of church-goers, the ‘do it my way’ approach is one more ‘act of entitlement’ believers can rationalise and soothe their consciences with. When members outgrow the house exclusivity can creep in dangerously close.
For those God has placed in an area where finding the church of one’s choice simply does not exist, most Christian believers I know share their faith in their homes anyway. The stone buildings just become the venue to use when a larger group of people can no longer fit inside a house.
I think it's important to be spiritually fulfilled and be growing in your faith. If house churches is how that happens for you, then great. Most people find more God food in their small group than they do on Sunday mornings.
Blondie..exactly...I just have been invited to one and was just curious. It just seems that the more people I talk to have become lost in the bigness that the church has become.
hmm... I'm Beverly, I love my kids and my dog...I love the ocean because it screams to me the awesome power of God....I am really afraid of heights, but I did go climbing and rappelling once...I love for people to make me laugh and I love to make others laugh...I love really scary movies but when the lights go out and I go to bed I find myself checking under the bed, and kicking myself for watching them..I love rain hitting the windows of the car..I absolutely love thunderstorms..I love children and how Jesus took snotty, loud, little kids on His lap, even at the protest of His followers...I sometimes jump in too quickly and that gets me in trouble...In my life, I had to actually touch the stove to believe it was hot..

I think house churches are awesome. Whatever Scott has said, I agree with him. Of course, I agree with whatever Scott says. Or he'll beat me up.
